On March 9th, the 1st EXCITING project event - Conference of EU-China Collaboration on 5G and IoT Research was successfully held in Beijing, China.
EXCITING, which started in November 2016, is a Coordination and Support Action jointly funded by the European Commission’s H2020 programme and by the Chinese Government. SPI is one of 14 partners coming from Europe and China.
The Conference aimed at presenting the latest development of 5G and IoT (Internet of Things) in both the EU and China. It covered various topics of common interest, including EU-China Science and Technology (S&T) cooperation priorities in the fields of 5G & IoT, standardisation, cooperation on large scale pilots and testbeds, as well as new and improved ways for cooperation between EU and China.
Among many invited experts, the Conference counted with the participation of Jean-Pierre Bienaimé (Secretary General of 5G PPP), Egon Schulz (Director of Wireless Innovation Center, Huawei), Chih-Lin I (Chief Scientist of Wireless Technologies, China Mobile) and Ziqin Sang (Vice Chairman of ITU-T SG20).
The event attracted more than 180 participants from different countries, including the UK, Germany, France, Switzerland and China.
The Conference was divided into four sessions, addressing policy perspectives, technology perspectives, applications and a final panel on joint future actions, where experts and project partners had fruitful discussions on EU and China cooperation on 5G and IoT. The Conference ended with the identification of the mutual benefits to create a better 5G and IoT environment for cooperation between EU and China.
