EMPORIA4KT project was nominated for the 2020 Atlantic Project Awards
EMPORIA4KT project, which SPI is a partner, was nominated for the 2020 Atlantic Project Awards.
The 2020 Atlantic Project Awards will be unveiled during the 7th Atlantic Stakeholders Platform Conference (ASPC2020). This will be a fully virtual event taking place on 19 November 2020, which will also mark the first occasion to formally launch the revised Atlantic Maritime Strategy and Action Plan 2.0.
ECCP Project: ClusterXchange scheme commences virtually
SPI is part of the European Cluster Collaboration Platform (ECCP) project that runs from 2019 to 2021. The aim of ECCP is to strengthen the competitiveness and sustainability of European Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) by improving their performance in terms of productivity, innovation, internationalisation and resource efficiency.
SPI participated in the SENET Expert Group Meeting
The first SENET Research and Innovation Expert Meeting took place on June 23rd, in online format. The objective of the meeting was to assess the main health priorities and challenges from both EU and China perspective and how both sides could cooperate with each other from different levels. The meeting started with the opening speech given by Rosanna D’Amario, Policy officer of European Commission, and Hicham Abghay, Steinbeis 2i GmbH, Coordinator of SENET. Around 30 participants attended in the meeting, coming from academia and research field.
Sociedade Portuguesa de Inovação (SPI) collaborated in the development of a report on the financial needs in the agriculture and agri-food sectors in Portugal
This report was part of a study for the European Investment Bank with the financial support of the European Union. The study was conducted in 24 European Union Member States and the Portuguese report was published on 11 June 2020 on the fi-compass website.

SPI coordinates project on entrepreneurship
As part of the completion of the UINNO project (Up-Skilling unemployed and low skilled workers in self-centered innovation approaches, to empower their self-employability potentials through start-ups and SMEs), SPI is consulting the various stakeholders involved to finalize the materials developed for the adult training kit to provide EU entrepreneurs who are potential entrepreneurs and start-ups with basic innovation skills and knowledge, and to prepare the national conference for this project.

4th European Climate Change Adaptation Conference – ECCA 2019 in Lisbon, co-organised by SPI through BINGO project
The 4th European Climate Change Adaptation (ECCA) Conference took place at Centro Cultural de Belém, in Lisbon, Portugal, from the 28th to the 31st of May 2019 with over 1100 delegates from all over the world.
The Organisation Committee of the Conference consisted of the coordinators and selected members of three EU-funded adaptation research projects: BINGO, PLACARD and RESCCUE. SPI, as the entity responsible for Dissemination and Exploitation for the BINGO project, was part of the Organisation Committee.
SISCODE second progress meeting in Paris, May 16th and 17th
Olga Glumac and Marília Cunha, SPI consultants, organized two workshops on sustainability and exploitation during the SISCODE second progress meeting in Paris, on the 16th and 17th May.
SISCODE is an EU funded project aimed at stimulating the use of co-creation methodologies in policy design, using bottom-design-driven methodologies to pollinate Responsible Research and Innovation, and Science Technology and Innovation Policies.

An exciting new project - EMPORIA4KT - from the European Union’s (EU) INTERREG Atlantic Area funding programme will focus on assisting academics to transfer knowledge from their research in order to create value in the European Blue Economy. The Blue Economy represents all economic activities related to oceans, seas and coastal areas and includes industries such as fishing, shipbuilding, tourism and ocean energy. This growing sector is hugely important to Europe, and currently provides jobs for nearly 3.5 million people. The project brings together partners from 5 countries, and will work to forge links between academia, business and government

BINGO project, with SPI as partner in the consortium, receives prize in PT Global Water Awards
The BINGO project, a Horizon 2020 project in which SPI leads the work on dissemination and exploitation, was awarded the prize as winner of the "RDI" category of the PT Global Water Awards, which rewards transnational initiatives on Research, Development and Innovation.

ERICENA - European Research and Innovation Centre of Excellence in China – Kick-off Meeting and Launch Event
The European Commission (EC) recently approved the project ERICENA under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme (Grant Agreement nº 733554), to set up a research and innovation Centre in China as part of its efforts to deepen Europe-China scientific and technological cooperation. It is the first EC funded Centre in China that focuses on research and development.

BINGO: Bringing INnovation to onGOing water management - a better future under climate change (www.projectbingo.eu; 2015-2019) is a 48 month Horizon 2020 Climate Action project aimed at providing practical knowledge and tools to end users, water managers, decision and policy makers affected by climate change to enable them to better cope with climate projections, including those on droughts and floods.

The first meeting of the CORRIE project (ERASMUS+ programme) took place in Porto, at SPI premises, on 9 and 10 December 2015. Sociedade Portuguesa de Inovação (SPI) participates in the Final Conference of the GEP VET Project in Bulgaria
On the past 28th of September, SPI participated in the final conference of the GEP VET project – Grow Entrepreneurship Potential in VET Institutions, financed by the European Commission under the its previous Lifelong Learning Programme (www.gepvet.eu). The event aimed at disseminating the project results, as well as share good practices between entrepreneurs, trainers and trainees regarding different entrepreneurial success cases and needed skills for being successful. SPI supported the event dissemination and organization as a partner in the project, having invited Mário Tarouca, an entrepreneur from JADE - European Confederation of Junior Enterprises, as one of the speakers. The session counted with around 50 participants from different EU countries.

SPI participated in the PACE-NET Plus Platform of Regional and Bi-regional Policy Dialogue event in Brussels 1 July 2015
PACE-Net+ Platform of Regional and Bi-regional Policy Dialogue was held on the 23rd and 24th of June 2015, in Brussels, Belgium. SPI participated in this event together with more than 60 policy-makers, and scientists of the Pacific (Australia, Cook Islands, Fiji, French Polinesia, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga) and Europe (Austria, France, Germany, Malta, Portugal and United Kingdom) with the purpose to deliver the main outcomes of the project activities (state of the art, thematic think tanks, survey on innovation, selected seed-funding projects) to the European Commission.
SPI implements Innovation Training for The Eastern Partnership in Minsk, Belarus
On 26-28 May 2015, Sociedade Portuguesa de Inovação (SPI) implemented a 3-day Innovation Training Course in Minsk for participants from the Eastern Partnership countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine). There were 30 country participants – representing government ministries, research sector, industry and innovation support agencies – in addition to expert trainers from Portugal, US, Austria, Belgium, Romania and Greece.
SPI partner in the NetBiome project, which promotes scientific collaboration in the area of sustainable biodiversity management in the outermost and overseas regions
From 8 - 11 June 2015 the fourth project meeting of the NetBiome project was held in Saint Denis, Reunión. SPI participated in this meeting with the representatives of the Azores, Canaries, Reunión, New Caledonia and the Dutch Caribbean, as well as the French, Dutch and German research organizations.

The IT4Energy/SMART CAMPUS Conference took place on the 27-28 April 2015 at the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian in Lisbon, Portugal. Over the two days of the Conference, several topics related to energy efficiency were discussed, including European projects, business models and policy recommendations. Also discussed was the transformation of user behavior in order to improve the energy efficiency of the spaces users occupy.

PACE-Net Plus Conference, 9th-11th September 2014 in Bremen (Germany)
Tackling non-communicable diseases or lifestyle options for improved nutrition and well-being; exploring the convergence of science and traditional knowledge in aqua and agriculture for a sustainable and healthy living in the 21st century; and enhancing community resilience in managing environment, water and wastes under a changing climate. These were the main issues addressed through three Think Tanks at the Conference that was held in the framework of PACE-Net Plus (the Pacific Europe Network for Science, Technology and Innovation) from the 9th to the 11th of September 2014 in Bremen (Germany).

SPI takes part in a Train-the-Trainer course on process optimization methods in Austria
SPI has recently taken part in the Train-the-Trainer course in Wolfsberg, Austria. The course was organized under the scope of the COSIMA project and aims to prepare trainers in applying the instrument of the FIS (Factory in the Seminar Room, originally developed in Germany by the Learning Factory – www.learning-factory.org) in all of the COSIMA participant countries.
